In the 1st quarter of this year, DOLE XII SagGen FO conducted series of advocacies/ orientation seminars on PPACL and R.A. 9231 for the youth. This is partnership with the  Public Employment Service Officers, LGU Officials, Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) and other partners that strategically create   level of awareness  on PPACL at the same time  to establish linkages.

The Philippine Program Against Child Labor (PPACL) works to transform the lives of child laborers, their families, and communities, towards their sense of self-worth, empowerment and development.

In 2011, NSO nationwide Survey on Children (SOC) showed that 3.21 million aged 5-17 years old are engaged in child labor, of which 2.99 million are into hazardous works. With these incidents of child labor, the DOLE Secretary, Hon. Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz ordered for a massive implementation of PPACL in every region with a vision of transforming our country into a child labor-free Philippines. Last year, no less than the Secretary herself graced the activities of some regions who have launched the program  for a child labor-free barangays which has provided  initial interventions for the child laborers(CL) and their parents.

DOLE XII SarGen then continued its effort to reach-out child laborers in Gen. Santos City and Sarangani Province for PPACL implementation.

Activities  on PPACL started last January 2013 with an  Orientation Seminars on PPACL and R.A. 9231 for the PESO Managers and the Juvenile Justice Networks (JJN- Gensan City)- compose of CSWDO Social Workers, BCPCs and other stakeholders working for the welfare of children at SARGEN Field Office. There were  64 participants  who attended the said activity.

Last February 2013, in line with the  Celebration for  the Working Youth Day, an orientation was conducted to  the working youths and the out-of-school youths. This is to encourage them to take an active part as partners of the Department especially in monitoring of the CL incidence. About 85 youth delegates participated in this activity, held at Capitol Gym, Alabel, Sarangani Province.

In General Santos City (GSC), an orientation of PPACL was also conducted last April 4, 2013 for the informal sectors of Barangay Bawing, GSC, NGO partners, People’s organizations, AFP, and children at risk of becoming child laborers. The activity was held at 512-Engineering Construction Batallion, Bawing, GSC with 110 participants.

Meanwhile, SPES beneficiaries of LGU- Alabel, Sarangani Province were  oriented of the program last April 10, 2013 held at LGU Alabel, Sarangani Province for them to understand the objective as they will be assigned as enumerators. The activity was attended by the parents of the SPES beneficiaries and LGU representatives.(Techie M. Alim/ Patricio L. Blanza of DOLE XII-SarGen FO)
