Several regional offices of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reported today various awareness raising and advocacy activities in celebration of the World Day Against Child Labor.
In their report to Acting Secretary Lourdes M. Trasmonte, DOLE RO Directors Alan Macaraya (National Capital Region), Henry John Jalbuena (Cordillera Administrative Region) , Grace Ursua (Region I), Raymundo Agravante (Region III), and Ponciano Ligutom (Region 6) confirmed that several advocacy campaigns have been lined up the entire month of June.
In the National Capital Region (NCR), anti-trafficking and child labor documentations provided by the Visayan Forum and the Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns (BWSC) will be presented during the Monday Flag Ceremony.
Advocacy orientation of child labor laws among parents of child laborers at Barangay Pasong Putik, Fairview in Quezon City is slated on June 20.
The following day, there will be an advocacy orientation on child labor law and trafficking laws among CLES participants at the DOLE Quezon City Field Office.
Following this is a forum among local council for the protection of children in Pasay City in relation to a Child Labor Free Barangay on June 22.
Meanwhile in CAR, the regional office has signed a Memoranda of Agreement on Chile Labor Free Barangays with the local government units of Mountain Province and Kalinga.
During the Independence Day celebration. CAR staff has initially organized the barangay council for the protection of children for Barangays Aguid, Fidelisan and Pide in the Mountain Province.
Likewise, a MOA was signed on Child Labor-Free Baranagays among four beneficiary-groups of Community-Based Enterprise Program (CBEP) in Baguio City.
Jalbuena disclosed that on last week of June, the regional office staff wil launch Batang Malaya: Child Labor-Free Philippines campaign which would include orientation on child labor among out-of-school youth and Project Angel Tree’s distribution of school supplies to 80 at-risk children in Baguio City.
Parents of children at risk of becoming child laborers in Lengaoan in Bugias, Benguet will be awarded livelihood assistance by the DOLE CAR on June 29. Project Angel Tree distribution of school supplies will also be conducted among 40 children in Barangay Lengaoan in Buguias, Benguet.
DOLE Region I Director Grace Ursua reported that several gift givings under Project Angel Tree will be conducted starting June 20-29 in the municipalities of Bolinao, Lingayen, Sta. Barbara and Calasiao in Pangasinan.
Likewise, advocacy campaigns on child related laws, issuances and concerns will be undertaken in said areas.
About 300 elementary students from four municipalities and two cities in Bulacan received educational packages during the WDACL celebration at the SM Events Center of SM Center in Marilao, Bulacan.
These areas covered the cities of Meycauayan and San Jose del Monte and the municipalities of Guiguinto, Bocaue, Marilao and Sta. Maria.
DOLE Region 3 Director Raymundo Agravante inked with Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado on the fight against child labor during the event.
Director Ponciano Ligutom of DOLE Region VI, in his report said that the regional office held its advocacy campaign against child labor in coordination with the Philippine Infomation Agency (PIA) and local radio and cable stations in Kalibo and Boracay Island in Aklan and San Jose in Antique.
It has also conducted orientations to I-SERVE sacada beneficiaries in Barangay Mamba, Madalag in Aklan as wel as to sacada recruiters applying for permit at the Aklan Field Office.
Ligutom also mentioned that the region slated advocacy orientation for child labor-free barangays to the Barangay Councils of Jonob-Jonob and Balintawak in Escalante, Negros Occidental.
Finally, Ligutom reported that the region will also provide technical support for the passage of barangay ordinance for the protection of children against child labor in Barangay Mamba, Madalag, Aklan; Barangay Alfonso 12, Libacao, Aklan, and, barangay Antipolo, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental.
