Project Angel Tree: Child Laborers Received Gifts from Safety Officers

About 51 child laborers received Christmas gifts from their “angels”. Children from barangays Ilang, Panacan, Tibungco and Callawa who are child laborers and at-risk to become child laborers were the recipient of the Department of Labor and Employment XI’s Project Angel Tree, in partnership with Occupational Safety and Health Network (OSHNET).

During the gift-giving activity, the children were given food and noche Buena packs, gift certificates, grocery packs, school supplies and educational assistance among others.

Project Angel Tree is one of the activities under the DOLE’s Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program which aims to build a community of sponsors or benefactors referred to as “angels” that is committed and supportive in providing social services such as food, clothing, educational assistance, and even work and training opportunities to child labourers and their families.

“Project Angel Tree wants to inspire you to aim high, to make you see that someday, it will be you who will be helping other children who have the same experience as you, “DOLE Technical Services and Support Division Chief Neil Allan Baban told the beneficiaries.

Sponsors who pledged and granted the children’s wishes were safety officer and companies who are OSHNet  members.

“As safety officers, we want to take part in creating a safety community for the children,” said OSHNet XI President Florife Prospero.
Baban and Prospero facilitated the distribution of gifts during the gift-giving ceremony.
