Hail The Outstanding Child-Friendly Municipalitie And Cities

The Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC), with Executive Director Brenda S. Vigo at the helm, awards local governments operationalizing the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in the country.

The Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) has been managing and coordinating the conferment of the Presidential Award since 1999 by virtue of its mandate as the focal government agency for children’s concerns.  On its 10th year of recognition for the most child friendly municipalities and cities, the CWC with the Search National Awards Committee pay tribute to the winners.

On behalf of President Benigno S. Aquino III, CWC Chairperson and DSWD Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Juliano-Soliman hands over these coveted trophies and cash prizes. Some five hundred (500) government officials both national and local, Children from LGUs and non-government organizations; UN Agencies, donors/sponsors, Corporate Foundations, Civic Organizations; and Members of the Diplomatic Corps are attending the event.

The Presidential Award is conferred to deserving Local Government Units (LGUs) in recognition of their vital role in the sustained promotion of children’s rights to survival, development, protection and participation as well as in ensuring child-friendly governance.

Five LGUs are awarded with the Presidential Trophy and P300,000.00 each from the 21 finalists, namely Mariveles, Bataan; La Trinidad, Benguet; Agoo, La Union; Labo, Camarines Norte; Tubigon, Bohol; Villaverde, Nueva Viscaya; Pilar, Cebu; Guimbal, Iloilo; Samal, Bataan; Tagaytay City; Laoag City; Tagum City; Talisay City, Cebu; Mandaluyong City; Davao City; Olongapo City; Butuan City; Bacolod City; Baguio City; Santiago City and Ormoc City.
