DOLE with JIT rescues 8 child prostitutes in Agusan del Sur

SAN FRANCISCO, ADS - JIT (Joint Inspection Team) composed of DOH, DSWD, Licensing Division of LGU, DOLE and PNP was created in Agusan del Sur to mitigate HIV spread and child prostitution.

On August 24, 2015, 10:00pm, the group raided 12 establishments, this province.

According to Maximo Magallen, LLCO of DOLE Caraga, 8 child prostitutes ages 14-17 were rescued from the 6 establishments (Yuki Store/KTV Bar, Lina Store/KTV Bar, Lina Store/KTV Bar, Jings KTV Bar, Pearl KTV, Neneths Videoke and Ella KTV).

“Kinahanglan nako magtrabaho para sa akong mga manghod kay patay na ako ginikanan. Gusto ko muskwela pero wala ko mahimo. (I need to work for my siblings since my parents passed away. I want to go to school but my current financial situation prevents me from doing so)” one of the girls said.

The children were briefed and underwent psychological evaluation and physical examination with the DSWD and DOH respectively.

DOLE - ADS has already profiled them and will be prioritized for the livelihood and educational assistance.

Now the establishments are undergoing DOLE assessment and are recommended for closure after affording them due process. END
