DOLE-NCR Capacitates CALM Members on Child Pornography

“Look at this concern in the eyes of a child and be childlike in your approach in solving it”, said Mr. Ryan Roberto E. Delos Reyes, in a message he delivered in behalf of Mr. Nelson C. Hornilla, OIC-Regional Director of DOLE-NCR during the orientation-seminar for members of the Career Advocates Life Coaches and Mentors (CALM). Said activity was conducted in three batches to cover the members of the network from the different localities of the region on 20-22 July 2016 at the Labor Governance Learning Center.

The capacity building was the second tranche in the series of activities in line for the network of guidance counselors in NCR as the thrust is to enable the guidance counselors to detect child laborers in school. The first activity, which focuses on the general concept of child labor, was conducted in February 2015.

During the activity, the participants were introduced to the realities of one of the worst form of child labor, the Child Pornography. The topic was extensively presented and discussed by Ms. Aleta Santos, Director of Hope for the Youth Foundation. Included in the discussions are RA 9775 or the Anti-Child Pornography Law and its Implementing Rules and Regulations. Likewise, workshops after the presentations were held to elicit the best responses and commitments from the attendees on their contributions to address the growing concern of Child Pornography. The participants responded with strong dedication in their contributions to curb said threat as they serve as Vice Chair of their school’s Child Protection Committee.

The activity is in line with the commitment of this Office during the 2015 DepEd Consultation on Child Protection Policy which was held in coordination with the International Labor Organization, Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns, and DOLE Regional Offices.
