With this Year’s Theme: “Batang Malaya:Pangalagaan, Batang Manggagawa: Labanan”, the Department of Labor and Employment Region IV-B successfully commemorated the World Day Against Child Labor in the Municipality of Rizal, Occidental Mindoro on June 30, 2014 at Rizal National High School Function Room.
Rizal Municipality was chosen as the venue for the celebration considering the result of the profiling of vulnerable workers which indicates that out of 399 households profiled 116 or 29.07% child laborers were profiled as compare to San Jose, Sablayan, and Mamburao with 2.3%, 13.26% and 12.16% respectively.
There were 100 pupils (7-9 years old) identified by the school as vulnerable to child labor and 77 parents of child larorers profiled from Barangays Salvacion, Adela, Malawaan, and Rumbang of Rizal, Occidental Mindoro who participated the said activity.
The activity was highlighted with the pledges of commitment of the parents to fight child labor and advocate the Governement’s thrust in supporting the children in pursuing their studies, by “stamping” their painted hands on the World Day against Chil Labor Poster.
Other activities include discussion of the worst forms of child labor, legislations, penalties and actions to combat Child Labor. School supplies and bags were given to the students to stress the importance of education. There were discussion and agreement among the parents for livelihood assistance to be provided by DOLE .
Some of the proposed projects were Meat and Fish processing from Brgy. Salvacion, Hog raising and Meat Processing from Brgy. Adela, Hog Raising and Fish Processing from Brgy. Rumbang, and Fish and Meat Processing in Brgy. Malawan.
