The Department of Labor and Employment Region 6 is set to hold a “Walk for a Cause” activity to kick start the Labor Day Celebration.
The activity will be held on May 1, 2018 where the Regional Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking in Person, Child Labor and Illegal Recruitment (RIACAT-CLIRT), partner government agencies, NGOs, Private Establishments and other stakeholders will “walk against child labor”.
The activity will start at 6 AM at the Jaro Cathedral, but those who will join may walk from a set point of origin to Mary Mart Mall, Iloilo City.
The event will be culminated by a short program and the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between partner NGAs and NGOs. The MOA will also ink the commitment of all stakeholders on the prevention and elimination of child labor in the region.
According to Atty. Johnson G. Cañete, DOLE 6 Regional Director, the event will also be simultaneously held in the provinces of Antique, Aklan, Capiz, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental.
The participants of the walk will pay P100.00 registration while those who will join the event in Negros Occidental will pay P50.00.
Cañete said that the proceeds will be used to fund the Project Angel Tree, a project which provides school supplies and other social services to children at risk from child labor in identified areas in the Region.
The Project Angel Tree will be conducted on June 12, 2018 during the World Day Against Child Labor.
