The recipients are child laborers and those at risk in nine barangays from the municipalities of Barotac Viejo, Anilao, Bingawan and Banate in the Province of Iloilo.
This initiative is part of DOLE’s effort in supporting the parents so that children will remain in school and the barangays maintain their status as such.
DOLE OIC-Asst. Regional Director Salome O. Siaton revealed that the nine barangays along with those declared in 2014 were certified as child labor-free after meeting several criteria for the Child Labor-Free Barangay Certification.
These barangays, Alabidhon and Poblacion in Bingawan; De la Paz and Libertad in Banate; San Antonio and Vista Alegre in Barotac Viejo; and, Mostro, Palaypay and Poblacion in Anilao were declared in 2015 as child labor-free, Siaton said.
As of last year, a total of 53 barangays in the provinces of Capiz, Iloilo and Negros Occidental were certified as child labor-free through the combined efforts of the DOLE 6 and partners such as World Vision, ABK3 LEAP and concerned LGUs.
