The Department of Labor and Employment Region 6 is set to hold a “Walk for a Cause” activity to kick start the Labor Day Celebration.
The activity will be held on May 1, 2018 where the Regional Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking in Person, Child Labor and Illegal Recruitment (RIACAT-CLIRT), partner government agencies, NGOs, Private Establishments and other stakeholders will “walk against child labor”.

DOLE NVFO OIC Engr. Joseph B. Sales disclosed that part of the results of a convergence survey program for the vulnerable sectors conducted by the DOLE in 2015 was the identification of the presence of child laborers in some municipalities in the province.

It was in 2007 when Rafael Grancioso was rescued as a child laborer at the age of 10 years old in Naic, Cavite who goes on fishing early in the morning and sells it before going to school. His family was not financially stable and he even goes to school with an empty stomach. Despite his situation, he never stopped dreaming which he knew impossible to achieve. Until Project Angel Tree came into his life and this project was really a great blessing because it helps him to revive his dreams to become an engineer.
The DOLE Cavite Provincial Office celebrated its 9th year anniversary of the implementation of Project Angel Tree. The continuous program to eliminate the worst forms of child labor has gone too far for Cavite, not just an ordinary gift-giving activity but also encourages the children to be in school and not on a hazardous work.
The municipalities of Nasugbu, Lian, Balayan, and Tuy all situated in District 1 located in the northern part of Batangas led the fun-filled yet meaningful event to conclude Region IV- annual celebration of the “World Day Against Child Labor”. Inspired by this year’s theme, “End child labor in supply chains: It’s everyone’s business!”, over 200 representatives, barangay officials, parents and their children, from the nine barangays of District 1 involved in the Child Labor-Free Project of the Department participated in the activities that started at 8:00 a.m. of June 25, 2016.

June 12 of every year marks the celebration of Philippine Independence as well as the observance of the World Day Against Child Labor (WDACL) as governed by the International Labour Organization (ILO). This year, the campaign focused on child labour and supply chains; all supply chains, from agriculture to manufacturing, services to construction, run the risk that child labor may be present (ctto ILO).
