Stakeholders in South Cotabato Revisit Laws Affecting Children

Koronadal City – The Provincial Council on the Protection of Children (PCPC) – South Cotabato in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 12 conducted a one-day Orientation on the Compendium of Laws related to Children to members of the Municipal Council on the Protection of Children (MCPC).

 

The one-day activity, held on 14 June 2011 was part of the awareness-raising activities conducted by the DOLE in line with the celebration of the World Day Against Child Labor held every June 12.

In his message, Rudy Jimenea, Executive Assistant to the Governor and representing South CotabatoGovernor Arthur “Dodo” Pingoy, lauded the organizers of the orientation.  He said that as “champions for the protection and welfare of children, duty-bearers need to be capacitated”.

“We have to synergize our efforts and complement our services”, Jimenea said “so that at the end of the day we can say - yes, we have protected our children.”dole12 1

Topics presented to the participants include:  Overview of the Philippine Program Against Child Labor (PPACL), salient features of Republic Acts 9231, 9208 and Sagip-BatangManggagawa Quick Action Team, Department of Education’s Enhanced K+12 Program, Psychosocial Recovery, Social and Economic Reintegration of Trafficked-Victims Survivor’s Program; salient features and process flow of Republic Act 9344 –Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006 and Republic Act 9523 – An Act requiring the Certification of the DSWD to declare a Child Legally Available for Adoption.

Jimelito Marquez and EmilianoMoambing of DOLE 12, Amina Dataya, Shelleynie Usman and Naira Aratuc of DSWD 12 and Leo Huliganga of Dep Ed acted as resource speakers.

Also present were DILG Provincial Director Josephine Leysa, PSWD Officer Nelida Pereira, DOLE-South Cotabato Field Office Head Editha Malcampo and other members of the PCPC.

About 90 participants from the 10 municipalities of South Cotabato and the city of Koronadal attended the orientation.

In a related development, the PCPC-South Cotabato in support to the celebration of World Day Against Child Labor participated in a motorcade around the city of Koronadal spearheaded by DOLE 12 last June 10, 2011 to drumbeat the message to end child labor especially in hazardous conditions.
