In observance of Children’s Month, the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC), together with partner government and non-government agencies, will conduct various activities in October. This year’s theme is: Local Council for the Welfare of Children (LCPC) Para sa Bright Child, Pakilusin, Palakasin, Pagtulungan natin!
CWC Chairperson and DSWD Secretary Dinky Soliman calls for an extensive celebration of children’s month through the LCPCs as they strengthen their efforts in protecting children.
In line with the celebration, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse Robredo issued a circular to all local chief executives instructing them to spearhead the celebration in their respective jurisdictions through activities that are consistent with the theme.
Robredo further enjoined all sectors to produce holistic and sustainable strategies to promote the rights of the child.
In Metro Manila, CWC Executive Director Brenda S. Vigo will commence the children’s month celebration with a mass to be officiated by a known healing priest, Fr. Joey Faller. The mass will be celebrated on October 2, 2011; 7:30am at Channel 4, Visayas Avenue, Quezon City through collaboration and support of St. Peter‘s Community in Quezon City.
Other highlights of the celebration include: Forum on Palakasin ang LCPC Ko with RSCWC-NCR, Kakampi for Child Rights with Museo Pambata and GMTV (featuring fun booths, workshops and film viewings); Rated: PG (PETA); BOSES (Indie Film) screening; launch of the Bright Child Outstanding News feature on Children and Outstanding Child Friendly Newspaper with the Philippine Press Institute (member of CWC Communication Committee); soft launch of PSBM Website on Child Rights Promotion and Child Protection with the Para sa mga Bata Movement (PSBM); Cine Pambata Film Festival (theater workshop, theater play, film showing, recognition/awarding) with the National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT) and Presidential Awards on Child Friendly City/Municipality.(Dey S.
