The Child Friendly Movement is a nationwide effort to institutionalize the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). It aims to make the community and the government adopt the child sensitive and child friendly principle as a way of life.
The movement is focused on local governance and the participation and support of families, communities, civil society and faith-based groups.
Initiated by the Council for the Welfare of Children, the Search for Child Friendly Cities and Municipalities was launched last November 1998 with the objective of recognizing the role of the local government units (LGUs) in promoting and protecting children’s rights to survival, protection, development and participation.
In 2011, around thirty four (34) LGUs joined the Search for Most Child Friendly Cities & Municipalities all over the country. Regional winners vie for the National Awards and the nominees for the different categories for review and approval. The five (5) CWC Board approved winners came from Highly Urbanized and Independent Component Cities, 1st-3rd class municipalities, Component Cities and 4th-6th class municipalities categories respectively.
The 2011 Awardees shall receive cash award of P300,000.00 and a Presidential trophy. A Hall of Fame award is conferred to three-time consecutive national awardee and is given Hall of Fame Presidential Trophy and P500,000.00.
