Balanga City, Bataan - DOLE Region 3 Director Leopoldo B. De Jesus reported to Labor Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz that the DOLE Bataan Field Office under the supervision of Nely M. Punzalan, held numerous activities for the month-long celebration with its theme dubbed ““Local Council for the Protection of Children Para sa Bright Child: Pakilusin, Palakasin, Pagtulungan Natin.”
Activities started with the passing of resolution of 11 barangays from the Municipality of Samal, Bataan ratifying their annual celebration of world day against child labor every June 12 of the year.
Meanwhile, at the Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School, Munting Batangas, in Balanga City, structured learning experiences and parlor games for 50 grade III and IV pupils were conducted. The activities were capped by an orientation on R.A. 9231 (Child Labor Law) and R.A. 9262 (Anti-VAWCI Law) for the parents of the children.
Parents expressed their appreciation to DOLE being first-time learners about the subject on child labor and were likewise enlightened on their rights as women victims of violence.
Ms. Lisa Austria, the school principal, said that the school chose said children participants because they are the ones at risk on child labor amongst them.
The children were so delighted that they called the said celebration as “Maagang Pamasko from DOLE.”
The Provincial Field Office tied up with Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and Provincial Council for the Protection of Children (PCPC) for future activities for the upcoming children’s month.
Last October 13, the DOLE partnered with the PCPC for an orientation on a “Child Friendly Society” at the Municipality of Hermosa and attended by the members of the town’s Local Council for the Protection of Children.
A celebration showcasing the “bright children” of Bataan was also held last October 21 through the annual Children’s Congress in partnership with the PSWDO. This was attended by day care children province-wide, where a contest on Calisthenics, Copy and Color, Solo Singing Contest and Poem Reciting were held.
The Municipality of Mariveles won the Calisthenics, the Municipality of Pilar won the Solo Singing and the Municipality of Orani won the Color and Copy Poem Reciting, respectively.
"October indeed is the month for children, but here in the province of Bataan, close partnerships with both the national and local agencies made the province a “child friendly society” for the whole year round," quipped Bataan Field Office Nely M. Punzalan. (Jerry Borja, with reporting from Jackie Tigas)
