The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 6 joined the recently concluded Children’s Forum at Iloilo Grand Tower Hotel, Iloilo City, in celebration of the Children’s Month.
The forum aimed to strengthen the children’s participation in the community and promote their rights through workshop, discussion, sharing and dialogue.
A total of 38 sexually abused children, children with disability, out-of-school youth, children in conflict with the law, child laborers, and street children from the provinces of Iloilo and Guimaras participated in the forum.
The children’s problems concerning their own selves, their family and community surfaced during the workshop.
These include low self-esteem, financial problems, addiction to computer, lack of love and care from parents, separated parents, sibling rivalry, family conflict, irresponsible parents, lack of communication, lack of value formation, misunderstood by people in their community, filthy environment, gambling, lack of potable water supply, drug abuse/addiction and crimes.
These problems and concerns will be presented to the Regional Sub-Committee for the Welfare of Children composed of DSWD, DOLE, DepEd, DOH, DILG, CHR, NCIP, PNP, NEDA and Provincial Planning Officers for their appropriate action. (Amy Judicpa-DOLE6 LCO)
